Hardware
The Snapdragon 888 processor and Adreno 660 GPU power the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, which come with 128 or 256 GB of non-expandable UFS 3.1 storage. Both contain LPPDDR5 RAM of 8 GB or 12 GB. Similar to the previous generation OnePlus 8/8Pro and OnePlus 8T, both include dual speakers with active noise cancellation but no audio jack.
Design
The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro include Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, as well as a "hole punch"-style camera in the upper left-hand corner, identical to the previous generation OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. The screen on the 9 is flat, with a plastic frame and a 2.5D edge, whereas the screen on the 9 Pro is curved and has an aluminium frame.
Display
The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro both boast an AMOLED HDR10+ screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, with the 9 Pro having an adjustable refresh rate (meaning the refresh rate is modified based on the job) thanks to its LTPO backplane. The OnePlus 9 features a 6.55-inch FHD+ display with a pixel density of 402 pixels per inch (ppi), while the OnePlus 9 Pro has a 6.7-inch QHD+ display . The 9 Pro, like its predecessor, has a 10-bit colour depth, allowing it to display up to 10 billion colours.
As far as biometrics go, both offer an in-display optical fingerprint scanner and facial recognition. In comparison to the OnePlus 8 series, the fingerprint sensor is situated lower.
Camera
The camera systems in the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro have been enhanced from prior models. The key improvements are in the ultra-wide camera's optics and colour processing, which were co-developed with Hasselblad. Both phones now have ultra-wide-angle cameras. The wide sensor of the OnePlus 9 Pro is a 1/1.43" Sony IMX789, while the ultra-wide sensor is a 1/1.56" Sony IMX766 (as in the previous generation OnePlus 8 Pro).
The OnePlus 9 Pro has an extra 77 mm, 8 MP, f/2.44 telephoto camera that uses the same sensor as the OnePlus 8 Pro.
Battery
A 4500 mAh lithium polymer battery powers both phones. This is a little increase over the OnePlus 8 and a slight drop over the OnePlus 8 Pro. With the bundled USB-C power brick, both offer 65 W fast charging, dubbed "Warp Charge 65T." The ordinary OnePlus 9 now has 15 W rapid wireless charging, which was previously only available on the OnePlus 8 Pro, however it is only accessible in select regions. With the purchase of the official OnePlus-branded 50 W wireless charger, the 9 Pro now has 50 W fast wireless charging. This is an improvement over the previous generation's 30 W rapid wireless charging.
Software
OxygenOS 11 is pre-installed on both phones and is based on Android 11.
